Marine Solar Films – Which is Best Window Tint?

If you’ve already made up your mind about getting your boat windows tinted, you still must decide what type of film you want applied to the windows of your watercraft. There are a few different types to choose from, but one is better than the others. The most common tint types are metallic, carbon and ceramic, and each have some benefits.

Metallic Tint

Metallic window tint has a slight shine to it that many owners find pleasant. This type of window film also makes windows more break resistant and it blocks out heat nicely. The major problem with this film is that it can interfere with cell phones and radios. That can be a serious issue inside a boat where radio transmissions are important, particularly where the captain sits because he may have to communicate with other boats while traveling around.

Carbon Tint

Carbon window film is another common type of tint that’s used on boats. This film creates a matte finish, and it can block up to 40% of heat from sunlight from ever entering the cabin. Carbon doesn’t create the interference issues either and it helps to block out UV radiation. It also holds up nicely over time and won’t fade much. The nice thing about carbon is that it’s affordable, making it a decent budget option.

Ceramic Tint

For boat owners that want the very best tint for their watercraft, there’s no beating ceramic tint. This stuff blocks out up to 50% of infrared light, significantly cooling down a cabin or another enclosed space. Ceramic tint also blocks up to 99% of UV radiation protecting the interior of your boat and the skin of all your passengers behind the tint. It’s the most expensive type of tint, but it holds up nicely over time and offers the most benefit with the least number of drawbacks. The only downside to this option is the price. It’s one of the most expensive options, but well worth the cost.

If you’ve already decided you want to tint the windows of your boat, you just must decide what type of tint you want to go with. Ceramic is best in most situations, but some owners still decide to go with carbon or metallic films as well for economic reasons, or because they like the look of the material.
